About this book

If I am not my brain, then who am I? And, if you are not your brain, then who are you?

As an attorney, academic, and strategist, Martine Cohen loved her brain, it’s where her brilliance resided. She could count on her brain to write complex corporate contracts and create multi-faceted business strategies. She was a perfectionist at work and a busy mom of 2 children.

Martine’s brain is what she was used to leading with—until a traumatic brain injury in 2016 caused a temporary loss of function and forced her to ask,

“If I’m not my brain, then who am I?"

What followed was a period of deep introspection during which Martine discovered that her true, authentic self had nothing to do with her brain or the personality attached to it.

"The brain uses layers of fear to protect us and keep us safe in the status quo. So, when my brain wasn’t functioning normally, that fear lost its power over me. I was able to go inward on a journey of self-discovery guided by intuition, not intellect. I discovered that in losing my brain, I found my true self.  I was no longer limited by fear."

Navigating her new relationship with her identity and experience brought her to a place of untapped power and potential.

Using the metaphor of "layers" to illustrate the limiting beliefs, fears, and conditioning that accumulate throughout our lives, Martine masterfully guides us through a transformational process to close the gap between who we are and who we know we can be by accessing our true selves.

Through Martine’s signature No More Layers process, you will:

  • Transform your mindset from lack, want, and need to a state of awareness, opportunity, wholeness, and fulfillment.

  • Reclaim your spirituality. We are born worthy, capable, authentically ourselves, and spiritual. We just need to re-discover all the resources that are within us.

  • Become aware and detangle from your “layers” and understand how you can change your story.

  • Stop your Self-Sabotage and get out of your own way.

  • Rebuild your relationship with yourself and rediscover the truth of who you are.

  • Discover the crucial difference between choosing and deciding.

  • Uncover the hidden messages behind your triggers.

  • Let go of your protective layers and embrace love.

  • Change your world by changing yourself.

When we shift our thinking, regain control over our brain, and tap into the calling of our higher self, we can once again feel connected to the wholeness that is our soul, to our higher self, and to where our purpose truly lies.
